After a disappointing defeat to DCU in the opening game of the league, the Trinity Hurlers travelled to UCD for the second game of the season with high hopes of securing a win. The opening minutes saw the sides playing tit for tat with no signs of either team pulling away. About 15 minutes into the first half UCD managed to take the lead which was quickly diminished by Trinity scoring a goal. The excitement of this didn’t last long as Trinity were quickly reduced to 14 men ten minutes before half time.
UCD finished ahead in the first half with one point ahead of Trinity with a half time score of 0-13 – 1-09.
UCD brought the thrill of the opening half into the second half, stretching their lead by two points before Trinity tightened the score. To add to the suspense, UCD’s goalkeeper scored a penalty to put them back in the lead.
Trinity responded rapidly though with one of their own men scoring a goal which put them back in the lead. This lead then went on to win them the match.
The final score was 2-22 - 0-19.
It was a brilliant game that no one could take their eyes off of, but an exciting win for Trinity College who are competing in Division One for the first time. This win will surely give the lads a great confidence boost leading up to the Fitzgibbon Cup.
