Ladies Football: The Differences and Similarities to Men’s

Ladies Gaelic Football is very similar to it’s male counterpart in which it’s played on the same field with the same equipment and under the same basic set of playing rules.

Rules

Like men’s football, each team consists of 15 players a side. The match duration is 30 minutes a side with a maximum of 15 minutes half-time break. When a player has the ball they can hold the ball for a maximum of 4 steps and then they must either bounce the ball or ‘solo’ the ball. A point may be scored by either kicking the ball over the bar, which gives you 1 point, or under the bar for 1 goal, which equals 3 points.

These rules have small variations from men’s football with the major one being the players can pick the ball directly from the ground, but a shoulder charge is not allowed when contesting for the ball
